The curatorial and collections rooms at the Kenilworth Historical Society had not been significantly updated since the early 1990s. We coordinated the renovation and designed a new layout and work area for the Collections Room, Storage Room, and Curator’s Room. During planning we accounted for projected growth and the need to preserve a variety of materials: archival, objects, oversize, and fine art.
The project included environmental updates, such as HVAC upgrades and the use of LED light fixtures. Through the creative use of in-wall fans linked to the environmental controls we reduced the amount of HVAC equipment needed by 50%. We also designed the layout for new workstations and an exhibitions production area. The project was completed on time and under budget. The project received an Award of Excellence from the Illinois Association of Museums.
