George F. Hanemann Gallery Redesign

img_0412.jpg

The main gallery at the Kenilworth Historical Society dated to the building’s construction in 1972 and was furnished from a Marshal Fields catalog. We redesigned the gallery to fade into the background and act as a blank canvas for exhibitions.

The plaster and concrete walls were covered with floating drywall to more easily mount exhibit components. To control light in the gallery track lighting with LED fixtures, new shades, and UV window film was installed.  Electrical outlets were hidden above and below the gallery walls to increase accessibly while maintaining a pleasing aesthetic. Overall the gallery was updated to meet the museum’s current and future exhibition needs while respecting the buildings original design. Check out the How Can I Help You? exhibition to view photos of the gallery before the redesign.

In Her Own Right: Marion Mahony Griffin developed by the Elmhurst History Museum and installed by the Kenilworth Historical Society was the first exhibition displayed in the redesigned gallery.
